Hwhup The Deans List! The Jason Dean here.

Welcome to the Beta version of what my newsletter is going to be…although there’s a non-zero chance that I will rock with this format and these settings for time immemorial because I forget to change them.

In the meantime, I wanted to put out a sort of hastily-done first post to let you know that I actually do have a plan* and that I am working on developing that plan.

Over the next two weeks (I don’t have an official exit date, but it will be shortly after that), I’ll be sharing my work through this newsletter and thejasondean.com, and I’ll only be sharing a couple of times a week. There’ll be more information about frequency in the welcome e-mail that you will (should) (better) receive after signing up. This is for a couple of reasons:

  • I want to provide more long form writing. This could be talking about specific things in our culture, or just goofy musings, or maybe even reacting to a podcast I just listened to. The sky is the limit and I’m excited to explore what this means, but it is going to take time and energy that I just will not have on a daily basis.

  • I really want to focus on refining my photography, and reducing output will help with that. Folks, I know that not every single photograph I share is an absolute banger. You know how I know that? Because I have eyes. Also, Ansel Adams, the father of Awesome Photography, said that 12 significant photos in a year is a good crop, and last time I checked 12 is less than 365. That’s where my head is at- excellence is the bar. There’s a lot of photographic noise out there, and I’m not competing with that. I’m chasing ghosts.

That said, here’s a cell phone photo I took outside of our church this afternoon.

More to come! I hope you’ll consider signing up and continuing to follow and support my work (and in an upcoming newsletter, I’ll talk more about support in a different way than I usually do). Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the formatting. Like I said, this is a the Beta version; I’m hoping to shape this newsletter into something that I’m proud to have made and you’re happy to have in your life.

See you around,

Jason
