Waves are Wednesdays
There’s no easy way to say this, so I’ll just get right to it- this is going to be the last Waves are Wednesdays newsletter.
I hope this goes without saying but it absolutely has nothing to do with a sudden decline in my gratitude or thankfulness. Indeed, I’ve always been and will always be humbled and wowed by the fact that the things I make are hold value for you, speak to you and connect with you. That means a great deal to me!!!
As I continue to grow what I’m doing here into what I hope to be a long-lasting and sustainable career, I am intentionally being objective in reviewing my content and making sure I’m using my time and energy on things that actively move my business forward.
Unfortunately for Waves are Wednesdays, it does not meet this threshold. My mid-week offerings are consistently are my poorest performing newsletters by all metrics. Perhaps more damning, I’ve lost multiple subscribers directly from Waves are Words. I know this isn’t because people don’t like being thanked or have suddenly stopped enjoying wave photographs.
I blame Inbox Fatigue.
Honestly, I get it because I’ve been there- you come across a business or an artist, you like what they’re doing, you want to support them and so you sign up for their newsletter only to unsubscribe in the coming days/weeks/months because they email you too darn much. And as much as it pains me to say this, I think two emails a week from me is an ‘I email you too darn much’ problem.
The good news, if you are a fan of either/and gratitude or wave photography is that Waves are Wednesdays is not really going away. I’ll still be sharing Wednesday wave images on my social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn), which I have been doing this whole time.
I know, however, that some of you have sworn off social media (or at least Meta) and I support that decision to the fullest. Indeed you may recall that part of what moved me to beehiiv in the first place was a desire to claim agency and stop supporting billionaires. So no, I am not going to ask you to renege on your principled stances (although if you are on those platforms and are not following me yet, find me on Linktr.ee!). To accomodate, I will incorporate a weekly wave photo and expression of thanks in each edition of The Weekender.
Thank you for your understanding, your grace as I navigate a new career, and for all the support and encouragement you’ve given over the years. Sharing my wave photos with you has been an integral part of my identity as an artist, and even though it may take different forms (much like a wave), it will continue to be so!
See you around,
Jason
