Hwhup The Deans List? The Jason Dean here, bringing an end to the Weekend like it was darkness. That’s right, folks- Daylight Savings is here to make the days longer and make it infinitely more easier to stay up past your bed time.
Then again, the days are longer so it’s hard to go to bed at your bed time.
Anyways. Let’s get into it.
One-on-one sit down
Folks- if you haven’t watched yet, please head over to YouTube and check out my one-on-one chat with David Sargent of the Light Overtime Podcast! And if you have watched it, watch it again and share with some of your friends. And if you have watched it again and shared it with some of your friends, then be on the look out for a Jason Dean from an alternate dimension.
New Art in my own space
Here’s what I’ve been cooking up in the lab 😎
Last Thanksgiving, we had our first substantive snow fall of the season. In hindsight, how quaint that I went outside at 8 in the morning and started taking pictures of the snow falling. I mean, sure, it’s a pretty picture. But November 2025 Jason clearly had no idea how much snow was going to fall over the next several months. If he did, he would have instead curled up in the fetal position on the kitchen floor.
This was taken in early 2026, back when somehow things felt a little bit less bleak than they do today. Of course, the weather on that day had no way to know this but it did make it very easy to edit this photo of an icy outcrop at McCarty’s Cove in Marquette into a moody black and white image. Thanks, January 3rd Weather!
Ho ho ho- it’s another Christmas picture!
Seriously though- I really like this one! As I was editing it, I felt a strong sense of nostalgia about Christmas and really leaned into it. Editing is just as much a part of my artistic process as the photography itself, which is why I’m so excited to start doing photo editing live streams at the end of this month!
Streaming
Speaking of photo editing live streams starting on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 PM EST on my YouTube channel…did you know that I plan to host a special soft launch on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00 PM EST for The Deans List subscribers? Wait, you…didn’t know that?
If that sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll add you to the guest list. Hope to see you there, friends!
Promotional Photo Shoot
On Wednesday, I’ll be taking promotional photographs for the Big Lake Theatre Co. and their upcoming production of Fun Home.
Make sure to follow them on Instagram or Facebook to see those promo photos (protos? phomos?) when they are shared and to support their work in general 🙂 You can extra support their work by buying a ticket to the performances, which start in less than three weeks!

March Madness
For the casual college basketball fan, March is the most wonderful time of the year. All across America, people who know next to nothing about college sports stare blankly at a page of seemingly made-up words, summon all of their unearned intuition, write a bunch of names onto a sheet of paper, and then confidently believe that somehow, they have stumbled onto the elusive perfect bracket.
If that sounds like your idea of a good time, then you’ll be happy to hear that I’ll be hosting a The Deans List bracket challenge on ESPN.com #notsponsored! It’s real simple, folks- I’ll create bracket groups for both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA tournaments and share that group information here. You’ll enter the group, create a bracket, and then just hope and pray that your champ doesn’t flame out in the opening weekend like mine most assuredly will.
It’s completely free to enter- BUT- if you win, you get to choose a free 8×10 photo print from one of my four galleries! If I happen to win (which is obviously going to be what’s going to happen since I’m so knowledgeable about this kind of thing), then the second place person will receive a free 5×7 photo.
APPLIED Sciences
I submitted my application for the Marquette Farmers Market this week, which was a pretty exciting item to cross off the To-Do List! If my application and dates are accepted, I’ll primarily be participating in the Wednesday night markets and one Saturday market each month.
100 Day Project Update
Here’s where ‘We, The Songs We’ve Sung’ stands after about 6.5 weeks.

As I near the halfway point of the project, I have to tell you that this is something I am definitely going to do more of in the future! It’s been an insanely fun way to tell a story over a period of time that results in a completely unique piece of art that I feel reflects human experience.
Waves are Wednesdays Preview
Behold: Next Week’s Waves are Wednesdays.

Thanks for being here friends, I really appreciate you!
I’m in Ann Arbor (again) today, this time bringing Lane back down to school to start the second half of the semester. Our time together went by WAY too quickly (again), but such is the way of things I suppose. Wherever you are, I hope you’re able to enjoy some time with friends and loved ones this week 🫶
See you around,
Jason
