Hwhup The Deans List? The Jason Dean here, bringing an end to weekends. Period. Just, they’re done. Gone. I’m sorry, but you’re just going to have to live the rest of your life with only Mondays.

Anyways. Let’s get into it.

Fall Break

In what feels like a recurring theme for me to write, today’s newsletter might be a little shorter than usual. My eldest child is home for a few days for Fall Break, so I’ll be spending as much time with her as possible. I also have a few pieces on display at the 2nd annual Luova Fest at the Crib in Marquette, so I’ll be spending some of the rest of my ‘as much time as possible’ there. And finally, I’ll be taking some promotional photographs for Big Lake Theatre Co.’s upcoming production of Lizzie:The Musical, which leaves me with (checks clock) not a lot of time left to write a thoughtful newsletter of length. Still, I have things to say, so say them I shall!

You may recall that last Saturday, I went waterfall hunting with Myles. My legs are (mostly) back to normal functionality, which is really just a reminder that I need to walk WAAAAAAY more than I currently do. While we’re at it, I also need to drink water more than I currently do, get more sleep than I currently do, etc.

Admittedly I’m not much of a waterfall guy, but I am absolutely a water guy and according to my analyzer, water falls are 50% water. I had an incredible time hanging out with Myles and as a bonus, I captured some images that I really, really like! I’m still sorting and culling (editors note: stuff from early July), but here’s one that popped out to me that I just had to release into the ether.

This was taken at the foot of the Quartzite Falls spot where we set up shop. I was drawn to the intersection of the water rushing over these really cool cuts in the rocks while the color of the sky and fall colors painted the surface of the water in a gorgeous way.

So my camera and I went to work. There are still many photos to sort from the outing, but this one really stood out at first blush. I hope you like it, and I’m looking forward to sharing more from that awesome day!

History

Does anyone remember me talking about the An Apple a (100) Day(s) project? I first wrote about it in the maiden voyage of The Weekender, shared a few outtakes over the next few weeks and then as life happened I…just kind of stopped talking about it.

This is partially because the entirety of my engagement with the peer group was happening on Facebook (in fairness, they did have a series of in-person check-ins that I was not able to attend) and when I quit Facebook, I lost that tether. I also had some other things going on in life that pulled focus. Once I regrouped, I assumed I had missed the opportunity to show off my work, put it out of mind and decided it was as a really cool experience that helped me grow creatively.

Then The Bonifas released their fall newsletter with the news that the 100 Day Project show is coming- and coming soon! So I reached out, asked if I could still be in the show and when the dropoff deadline was. They graciously said yes to my participation!

So I will be working in haste to finalize my edits of the The Apple photos. I’m figuring out how I will share the photos digitally, but my plan for the show is to cut a 1 in x 1 in section from each photo, glue that on to a canvas and frame it for display. This project was an important part of my growth as an artist this year, so thanks again to The Bonifas for putting it all together and for letting me wander back into the fold 😎

Thanks for being here, and for being you and being cool with me to be me! I hope that you have a wonderful week, and I am looking forward to what is just around the bend!

See you around,

Jason
