Hwhup The Deans List? The Jason Dean here, bringing an end to the Weekend like it was sin and death.

Anyways. Let’s get into it.

New Art in my own space

Here’s what I’ve been cooking up in the lab 😎

Nature is a source of wonderful beauty, like dew on a newly fallen leaf or a field of sunflowers in blossom or a Chicago-style pizza freshly taken out of the oven.

Of course, sometimes that beauty can be objectively horrifying like when the waters of Lake Superior get so cold, so fast that the air bubbles rush to escape and instead get frozen in place in a dark, icy grave.

I love the Black Rocks, not just because they are the premier place to watch waves in Marquette but because they are literally giant black rocks. Being so close to Lake Superior and the woods of Presque Isle Park, the Black Rocks often find themselves with leaves filling puddles of standing water which is an abstract photographers dream!

This image reminds me of the Dead Marshes in Lord of the Rings. There is something eerily quiet and calmly tense about dead things preserved in cold, shallow water- even if it’s just oak leaves and not legions of Galadhrim.

And no I did not follow the lights, thank you very much! Who do you take me for anyways?

This is a photo that I took to test the light conditions before last week’s No Kings protest in downtown Marquette. As I am wont to do, I forgot to adjust my settings from a previous shoot and ended up shooting my first few shots at ISO 2500, which meant a fair amount of light amplification to a scene that, thanks to the zenith-approaching sun, did not need further light amplification.

Yet I still love this photo. I talked about this a bit in my last YouTube Live Stream, but my photo exposures tend towards the dark side.

This photo, by contrast, was exposed to the right and gave me a different feel than I’m used to. I love the light blues I was able to capture, juxtaposed against the creamy concrete of our Post Office building.

Waves are Wednesdays Preview

Behold- this weeks Waves are Wednesdays photo that I’ll be sharing on Social Media:

Thank you for being a follower and supporter of my work! I really appreciate you 🙂

Quick one today as I’m traveling back from Ann Arbor and a weekend with my kids and beehiiv already ate one version of the finished newsletter 😡. I’ll be okay, just a little irritated.

I hope everyone has a nice Easter!

See you around,

Jason
