Waves are Wednesdays
Astute readers may recognize that there was not, in fact, a Weekender VI in their email inbox this past weekend. All I can say is that I wasn’t able to complete the edition, and so I didn’t complete the edition. I am sorry, and I will make it up to you.
Last week, I wrote about whether my love for wave photography might be waning. And everything I wrote was 100% correct, both then and now…but yesterday, the siren call of the lake did sing to me and I was able to sneak down to my favorite spot (the Black Rocks) and spend some time chasing the waves. They weren’t the bestest, most powerfullest waves I’ve ever seen…but man, were they beautiful in the rhythm of their ferocity. And while I sat on the edge of the cliffs, watching the waves pounding on the rocks like an unstoppable force, I was surrounded by a most beautiful flurry of gently falling snow that filled the air. It was a wonderfully apt metaphor for life right now.
Needless to say, I took a LOT of photos, and I’m super excited about early returns. A bit of a spoiler about my favorite shots from the session- they are neither crisp (although I got some of those) or motion-blurred wave tracking shots (although I got some of those). They are something else entirely, shots of waves that I have not taken or seen before.
Throughout my artistic existence (artistence?), I have embraced curiosity and a spirit of experimentation to find my own artistic voice, and yesterday felt like a huge step forward for me in terms of curiosity and experimentation. I’m beginning to believe.
A HUGE thank you for supporting my work. I appreciate each and every person that has taken time to encourage, comment on, share, or purchase one of my photos. It means a whole awful lot.
See you around,
Jason
