Waves are Wednesdays
Have I ever told you that wave photography is my favorite? Because wave photography is my FAVORITE. Astute readers will remember that, not all that long ago, I very publicly said that live theatre photography was my favorite. To which I now say, ‘How dare you use what I’ve said against me!?!? I thought we were friends. Friends’.
In fairness to my past self, I think the experience of theatre photography is consistently more enjoyable. Every time I’ve done it, it’s been fun and I always enjoy interpreting the story on the fly while also figuring out how to maximize the technical limitations of my equipment. Wave photography, on the other hand, can be hit or miss; even when the conditions seem like they’re ripe for dynamite, you can end up with some waves that are...just okay? Fine?
It can be a heck of a let down.
But man…when the North Winds are hitting at the right velocity and from the right direction and the light is right…there is nothing like it in the whole wide world. And in those moments, I feel incredibly alive and connected to the moment in a way that I can’t describe with words and so I try my best to capture those moments with my camera and then I come here and share those moments with all of you 😊.
Needless to say, many more photos to come from this session…and as I mentioned during the most recent Weekender, we are entering that time of year where these sorts of wave events are going to be much more common. I’m super excited, folks!!!
Speaking of being excited, I continue to move forward in my career transition. I had an awesome meeting on Monday with Moon Vibes Media and Kyle has laid out a path and a structure to help me distill my vision into actionable items that will give me the best chance to be successful.
I mention this because one of the things I am working on is figuring out how to diversify income streams. One of the things that I have thought about (and talked about here) for awhile is how to monetize The Deans List without taking away from what I’ve already decided that I’m going to continue to offer for free. While I can change my mind about what kind of photography I like best, I’m not going back on my word to continue to bring Waves are Words and The Weekender to you every week for no cost to you.
But what about Second Wave photo?

One of the things I’m considering is adding some bonus (man, I can’t believe I’m using this word) content to my newsletters as a part of a monthly subscription service. Maybe adding an extra photo each newsletter for a few bucks a month, or something like that? I’m still kicking some ideas around. There are lots of potential options and it’s exciting to be able to explore them, but no matter what direction things move in, Waves are Wednesdays started as and will always be an opportunity for me to publicly say thank you for being a supporter of my artwork. It means so much to me, friends!
See you around,
Jason
